West Bloomfield Township is a special type of town called a charter township in Oakland County, Michigan. It's a suburb located northwest of Detroit, about 27 miles (43 km) from downtown Detroit. In 2020, about 65,888 people lived there.

West Bloomfield is often called the "lake township" because it has many lakes. Some of the biggest lakes in the area are partly in West Bloomfield.
Major Lakes and Natural Beauty
Cass Lake is the largest lake in Oakland County. Pine Lake is completely within West Bloomfield and has a private country club. Just west of Pine Lake is Orchard Lake, which also has a private club. The city of Orchard Lake Village surrounds Orchard Lake. Many smaller lakes are also scattered around these larger ones.
Main Roads and Shopping Areas
Orchard Lake Road runs through the middle of the township. It's a main road for businesses, along with West Maple Road (also known as 15 Mile Road). You'll find many shopping centers, unique stores, and nice restaurants along these roads.
Growth and Neighboring Towns
West Bloomfield has grown a lot since the 1960s. Many people moved here from the inner suburbs of Detroit. The township is in south-central Oakland County. It's about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Detroit's city limits. West Bloomfield shares borders with Bloomfield Township to the east and Farmington Hills to the south. To the west is Commerce Township. To the north, it borders Waterford Township, Orchard Lake Village, Keego Harbor, and Sylvan Lake. These four communities, along with West Bloomfield, are sometimes called "Greater West Bloomfield."

The township covers about 31.2 square miles (80.9 km²). Most of this area, about 27.3 square miles (70.8 km²), is land. The rest, about 3.9 square miles (10.1 km²), is water. This means about 12.49% of the township is covered by water.

The West Bloomfield Township Public Library serves the community. In 1999, this library became "sister institutions" with the Awaji City Library in Awaji, Hyogo, Japan.
Religion and Diverse Communities
West Bloomfield is known for having the largest Jewish population in Michigan. It is home to the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit and the Frankel Jewish Academy, which is a Jewish high school.
The township also has a large Chaldean-Assyrian population. In 2004, the Chaldean Cultural Center opened here. It is the largest center of its kind in the United States.
As of 2013, West Bloomfield had the third largest Japanese population in Michigan.
