Wikieup is a small community in Mohave County, Arizona. It's not a city, but a special kind of place called a census-designated place (CDP). You can find it along U.S. Route 93. Wikieup is about 139 miles (224 km) northwest of Phoenix. It's also about 162 miles (261 km) southeast of Las Vegas. In 2020, only 135 people lived there.

Where is Wikieup Located?
Wikieup is in the southeastern part of Mohave County. It sits in a valley near the Big Sandy River. To the west are the Hualapai Mountains, and to the east are the Aquarius Mountains.
U.S. Route 93 goes right through Wikieup. This road leads northwest about 54 miles (87 km) to Kingman. Kingman is the main city and county seat for Mohave County. If you go southeast on the same road, it's about 74 miles (119 km) to Wickenburg.

A Look at Wikieup's Past
Wikieup has a long history. Explorers from Spain, like Espejo in 1582, were likely the first Europeans to visit. Later, Lt. Amiel W. Whipple explored the area in 1854.
In the early days, Wikieup was important for farming, mining, and processing metals. The McCrackin Mine, found in 1874, was about 18 miles south. The Signal Mine was 12 miles south. There were also mills nearby to process the mined materials.

Students in Wikieup attend the Owens-Whitney Elementary School District. This district has one school for grades K-8 (kindergarten through eighth grade). For high school, students can choose to go to schools in the Bagdad Unified School District or the Kingman Unified School District.

- Donald Machholz (1952-2022): He was an American amateur astronomer. He became famous for discovering 12 comets that were named after him.
