A Look at Windaroo's Past
Windaroo got its name from a sugar plantation that used to be in the area. This was a long time ago, in the 1800s, when many farms grew sugar cane along the Albert River.
From Farms to Homes
For a long time, Windaroo was mostly farmland, especially for dairy cows. But in the late 1970s, things started to change. Land was divided into smaller blocks for people to build homes. The first land sales for the Windaroo Acres estate happened in 1983.
The suburb officially received its name and borders on June 1, 1981.

Before 2008, Windaroo was part of the City of Gold Coast. But in 2008, the local government boundaries changed. Windaroo and other suburbs north of the Albert River became part of the City of Logan. This happened even though most residents voted against the change in 2007.
