Railroads and Growth
In 1878, a railway company called the Marion and McPherson Railway Company was started. It built a train line that reached McPherson in 1879. This line later connected many towns, including Windom. The railway helped towns like Windom grow by making it easier to transport goods and people.

Some people think Windom was named after a politician named William Windom. Others believe it was named after Windham County, Connecticut.
