A Look Back in Time: Yamanto's History
Yamanto started as a large cotton farm in the 1860s. It was about 50 acres in size. The farm was first called 'Yamahanto'. Two cousins, Henry Challinor and George Miles Challinor, owned it together. Henry was Queensland's first government doctor.
Over time, the area had other names too, like Mine Accident and Loamside. These names were even used for the local train station on an old railway line.
Schools and Growth
A school called Amberley State School moved to Yamanto on January 1, 2010. It was then renamed Amberley District State School. This school first opened way back in 1863 as Warrill Creek State School. It became Amberley State School in 1903.
In 2015, Yamanto began to grow a lot. A new development called Ecco Ripley was being built nearby. Also, the RAAF Base Amberley (a Royal Australian Air Force base) was expanding. These changes brought new businesses and improvements to Yamanto.

Learning in Yamanto: Education
Amberley District State School is a primary school in Yamanto. It teaches students from Prep (the first year of school) to Year 6. The school is located at 37 Deebing Creek Road.
In 2017, the school had 807 students. There were 57 teachers and 40 other staff members helping out. Because Yamanto is on the edge of the Ipswich city area, students come from both the suburbs and the countryside.
About a quarter of the students have parents who work in the defence forces. Many of these parents serve at the nearby air base. This means some students have lived in many different places because their parents move for work.
