Ángel Valentín de las Heras Lázaro (born 18 September 1958 in Zamora) is a retired Spanish sprinter. He was known for competing in short-distance running events, specifically the 200-meter and 400-meter races. Ángel proudly represented his country at the 1984 and 1992 Summer Olympics, which are the biggest sports events in the world! He also competed in two World Championships, in 1983 and 1987.

Ángel's Athletics Journey

Ángel Heras had a successful career as a sprinter, competing in many important international events. He often ran in individual sprint races and was also a key member of Spain's relay teams. Relay races are exciting team events where four runners each run a part of the total distance.

Early Career and First Medals

Ángel started making a name for himself early on. In 1975, he won a bronze medal in the 4 × 100 meter relay at the European Junior Championships held in Athens, Greece. This was a great start to his international career!

A few years later, in 1983, he earned another bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary, this time in the 400-meter race. That same year was very busy for him. He also won a bronze medal in the 4 × 400 meter relay at the Mediterranean Games in Casablanca, Morocco.

Shining at the Ibero-American Championships

The 1983 Ibero-American Championships in Barcelona, Spain, were a highlight for Ángel. He showed his speed by winning three medals:

  • A bronze medal in the 100-meter race.
  • A silver medal in the 200-meter race.
  • A gold medal in the 4 × 100 meter relay, helping his team achieve first place!

He also added another bronze medal in the 4 × 400 meter relay at the same event.

In 1986, he was part of the Spanish 4 × 400 meter relay team that finished 5th at the European Championships in Stuttgart, West Germany. His career shows a consistent effort and dedication to the sport of athletics.
