- During the Battle of Shanzhou, a general from the Liao Dynasty named Xiao Talin was killed by a Chinese soldier using a crossbow.

- On May 14, Henry II was crowned the Holy Roman Emperor in a city called Pavia. After his crowning, a fight broke out between his German companions and the local people of Pavia, which turned into a full-scale battle.
