  • While he was in prison in Genoa, the famous explorer Marco Polo started to tell his incredible stories. He dictated his adventures, which later became the book The Travels of Marco Polo. This book shared amazing details about his journeys to faraway lands.
  • A fire caused a lot of damage to the historic Palace of Westminster in England.
  • In China, a government official named Wang Zhen (official) made an important invention. He created wooden movable type for printing. This was a big step forward, as it allowed people to print books and documents much faster. Before this, in the 11th century, another inventor named Bi Sheng had invented ceramic movable type.
