1927-28 NHL season facts for kids
The 1927–28 NHL season was the 11th year for the National Hockey League (NHL). Ten hockey teams played 44 games each. The New York Rangers won the famous Stanley Cup this season. They beat the Montreal Maroons in the finals. This was a big deal because the Rangers were the first team from the United States to win the Stanley Cup since the NHL began. The Seattle Metropolitans had won it back in 1917, but they were not an NHL team at that time.
This season also brought back the O'Brien Trophy. This trophy used to go to the overall NHL champion. It was replaced by the Prince of Wales Trophy for a while. Now, the O'Brien Trophy went to the best team in the Canadian Division. The Prince of Wales Trophy went to the best team in the American Division.
