The ARIA Hall of Fame is a special award given by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). It celebrates amazing Australian musicians, producers, songwriters, and others who have made a huge impact on music in Australia. Since 1988, ARIA has chosen new members for this Hall of Fame every year.
For many years, new Hall of Fame members were announced during the big ARIA Music Awards ceremony. But in 2005, ARIA decided to have a separate event called ARIA Icons: Hall of Fame. This allowed more artists to be honored each year, usually five or six. These special shows were even broadcast live on TV!
In 2008, the Hall of Fame ceremony became completely separate from the ARIA Music Awards. For the first time, the public could attend the event, which was held at the Melbourne Town Hall. ARIA also announced a new exhibition at the Arts Centre Melbourne to show off cool items from the Hall of Fame inductees. In 2011, the Hall of Fame inductions returned to being part of the main ARIA Music Awards. Later, in 2017, ARIA helped create the Australian Music Vault at Arts Centre Melbourne, which has a special board listing all the Hall of Fame members since 1988.
