The ARIA Hall of Fame is a special award given by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). Since 1988, ARIA has honored amazing Australian musicians, producers, and songwriters who have made a big impact on music in Australia. It's like a special club for music legends!
For many years, new members were added to the Hall of Fame during the annual ARIA Music Awards. But in 2005, ARIA decided to create a separate event called ARIA Icons: Hall of Fame. This allowed more artists to be honored each year, usually five or six, with one more added at the main ARIA Music Awards. VH1 even broadcast the show live on TV.
On July 1, 2008, the Hall of Fame ceremony became completely separate from the ARIA Music Awards. This event, held at the Melbourne Town Hall, was also opened to the public for the first time. ARIA announced that a new yearly exhibition would start at the Arts Centre Melbourne in November. This exhibition would show cool items and memories from the Hall of Fame members.
In 2011, the Hall of Fame ceremony returned to being part of the general ARIA Music Awards, with two new members joining. Later, in 2017, ARIA teamed up with Arts Centre Melbourne to create the Australian Music Vault. This place has a special board listing all the Hall of Fame members since 1988. In 2024, it was announced that a big event is planned for 2026 to induct many people into the Hall of Fame all at once.
