Advance is a small town in Stoddard County, Missouri, United States. It is located where State Highway 25 and State Highway 91/Route C meet. In 2010, about 1,347 people lived there. The town was started around 1882. You say its name like ADD-vance.

History of Advance
Advance began around 1910. This was when the railroad tracks were built and reached the area.
About Advance
Advance is a quiet town. It does not have many big industries. Farming is the main way people earn money here.
The town offers several services for its residents. There are three health clinics: Advance Medical Clinic, Cross Trails Medical Center, and Haven Health Care Medical. For fun and exercise, there are two parks. Umfleet Park is one, and the Advance Ballpark is the other. The ballpark is where high school baseball and softball games are played. It also hosts summer T-ball leagues for younger kids. You can also find tennis courts and a sand volleyball court there. The town also has a library called the Advance Community Library.
Advance is run by a mayor and a council. The current mayor is Ryan Slinkard. The town has a police department with a few officers. The Advance Volunteer Fire Department has about 15 firefighters and five vehicles. If you need a hotel or a big hospital, you would need to travel about 20–25 miles. The closest ones are in Dexter to the south and Cape Girardeau to the northeast.

In 2010, the city had 1,347 people living in 578 households. About 356 of these were families. The population density was about 1,202 people per square mile. There were 635 housing units in total.
About 28.7% of households had children under 18. About 43.8% were married couples. Around 35.1% of households were single people living alone. About 21.7% of households had someone aged 65 or older living by themselves. The average household had 2.26 people. The average family had 2.86 people.
The average age of people in Advance was 41.6 years. About 21.2% of residents were under 18. About 24.8% were 65 or older. The town had slightly more females (53.3%) than males (46.7%).
Education in Advance
The Advance R-4 School District serves most of northern Stoddard County. It also covers small parts of Bollinger County. The district has a preschool and one elementary school for grades K-6. There is also a junior-senior high school for grades 7–12. About 500 students attend school in the district each year. The school colors are orange and black, and their mascot is the hornet.
Students can play many sports at the school. These include boys' and girls' basketball, girls' volleyball, baseball, softball (in spring), cheerleading, boys' golf, and coed cross country.
The Advance High School Lady Hornets varsity volleyball team has won several state championships. They won their first Class 1 state title in the 2018–2019 season. They beat Calvary Lutheran to win. They then won two more state titles in a row, in 2019-2020 and 2020–2021. In 2021–2022, they lost in the state quarterfinals. But they came back to win the Class 1 state championship again in the 2022-2023 and 2023–2024 seasons. This gave the school its fifth state volleyball championship. All five winning teams were coached by Erin Hoffman.
The Advance Hornets boys basketball team placed second in the Class 1 state tournament in the 2016–2017 season. They had a close game, losing 65–62 to Walnut Grove.
