Ahmad Ramzy (Arabic: أحمد رمزي; born 23 March 1930 – died 28 September 2012) was a famous Egyptian actor. He played the main characters in many Egyptian movies. You could see him in films from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

Early Life

Ahmad Ramzy was born in 1930. His full name was Ramzi Mahmud Bayyumi. His father, Dr. Mahmud Bayumi, was an orthopedist (a doctor who treats bones and joints) and a university professor.

Ramzy went to Victoria College in Alexandria. There, he met a friend named Michel Dimitri Challhub. This friend later became the famous actor Omar Sharif. They stayed friends for their whole lives.

After finishing school, Ramzy studied medicine for three years. Then, he switched to studying business. But he eventually left college to become an actor. Ramzy had one brother, Dr. Hassan Bayoumi. He also became a doctor, just like their father. Dr. Hassan Bayoumi lives and works in London.

Career

Ahmad Ramzy's acting career began in 1955. He was discovered by a director named Helmy Halim. Halim saw Ramzy playing snooker at a club. Ramzy got his first role as "Ramzy" in the movie Ayyamna al-Holwa (Our Best Days).

In this film, he acted alongside Faten Hamama, Abdel Halim Hafez, and his good friend Omar Sharif. The movie was a huge success. It made a lot of money and was very popular. The next year, in 1956, Ramzy got his first main role. This was in Hob wa Dumoo` (Love and Tears) with Faten Hamama.

The late 1950s were a great time for Ramzy. He acted in many movies and became very famous. In the early 1960s, movies with more than one main star became popular. Ramzy often worked with other actors like Hassan Youseff and Youssef Fakhr Eddine. This led to "trio stars" films, like The 3 Wild Ones. This trend continued into the early 1970s.

During the 1970s, Ramzy also acted in movies made outside of Egypt. He appeared in films from Italy, Lebanon, and Syria. For example, he was in Il Figlio di Spartacus (The Son of Spartacus) from Italy.

As he got older, Ramzy's acting career slowed down. The types of movies being made also changed. His 1974 film Al Abtal (The Heroes) was special. It was Egypt's first martial arts film. It even used music from Bruce Lee's movie Enter the Dragon. By the mid-1970s, Ramzy started to leave acting. He focused on his trading business instead.

However, he made a comeback in 1999 in the film Ket El Saharaa (Desert Cat). He then acted in a TV series called Wajh al-Qamar (Face of the Moon) in 2001. In this series, he worked with Faten Hamama again.

In the early 2000s, Ramzy acted in another movie. It was called El Warda El Hamra (The Red Rose) with actress Yousra. His very last role was in a TV series from 2007. It was called Hanan W Haneen. In this show, he acted with his lifelong friend Omar Sharif. Omar's grandson, Omar Sharif, Jr., was also in the series.
