Aichi Prefecture (愛知県, Aichi-ken) is a special area in the Chūbu region of Japan. It is located on the island of Honshū. Aichi is like a state or province in other countries. Its main city, or capital, is Nagoya.

A Look at Aichi's Past
Aichi Prefecture was formed by joining two older areas. These were called Owari Province and Mikawa Province.
Important Moments in Aichi's History
- 1573: People started building Inuyama Castle.
- 1612: Work began on Nagoya Castle.
- 2005: Aichi hosted the 2005 World Exposition. This was a big event where countries showed off their ideas.
What Drives Aichi's Economy?
Aichi is known for its strong industry. Many cars are made here. This makes Aichi a very important place for Japan's car industry. Besides making cars, trade, farming, and fishing are also key parts of Aichi's economy.
Aichi's Location and Nature
Aichi Prefecture is located on the coast. It faces Ise Bay and Mikawa Bay to the south.
The prefecture shares its borders with several other prefectures:
- To the east, it borders Shizuoka Prefecture.
- To the northeast, it borders Nagano Prefecture.
- To the north, it borders Gifu Prefecture.
- To the west, it borders Mie Prefecture.

About 17% of Aichi's land is set aside as National Parks. These are special areas that protect nature and wildlife.
Sacred Places: Shrines and Temples
Aichi is home to many important religious sites. Some of the main Shinto shrines, called ichinomiya, include Oguni jinja, Kotonomama Hachiman-gū, Sengen jinja, and Mishima jinja. These are places where people go to worship.
