Alec Martinez (born July 26, 1987) is an American professional ice hockey player. He plays as a defenseman for the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League (NHL). Alec is a three-time Stanley Cup champion. He won the Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings in 2012 and 2014. He also won it with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023. In 2014, he scored two huge goals in overtime. These goals helped his team win the Western Conference Finals and the Stanley Cup Finals!

Early Life and Hockey Start
Alec Martinez was born in Rochester Hills, Michigan. This city is a suburb of Detroit. His family has roots in both Spain and Canada. Alec grew up in Michigan. Later, he moved to Fremont, California. There, he played junior hockey for teams like the Santa Clara Blackhawks. He also played for the San Jose Jr. Sharks.
Alec was a great student-athlete. He earned four varsity letters at Stoney Creek High School. After high school, he played college hockey. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Alec Martinez's Hockey Journey
Playing for the Los Angeles Kings
The Los Angeles Kings picked Alec Martinez in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He was the 95th player chosen overall. He started his professional career in 2008. He played for the Manchester Monarchs. This team was the Kings' minor league affiliate.
Alec joined the Kings for four games in the 2009–10 season. He then returned to the Monarchs. In November 2010, the Kings called him back up. He scored his first NHL goal on November 24, 2010. It was a power-play goal against the Montreal Canadiens. Alec quickly earned the trust of his coaches. He played well on both offense and defense.
On June 11, 2012, Alec helped the Kings win the Stanley Cup. This was his first championship!
During a lockout in 2012, Alec played for the Allen Americans. He returned to the Kings when the NHL season started again. In the 2013–14 season, Alec became a regular player. He even helped the team score goals.
He scored two game-winning goals in the 2014 playoffs. These goals led the Kings to their second Stanley Cup title. On June 1, 2014, he scored in overtime in Game 7. This win sent the Kings to the Stanley Cup Finals. Then, 12 days later, he scored the Cup-winning goal. It happened in double overtime against the New York Rangers. He became one of only a few players to score the Cup-winning goal in overtime.
In December 2014, Alec signed a new contract with the Kings. In the 2016–17 season, he had his best year. He played all 82 games and scored 39 points.
Joining the Vegas Golden Knights
On February 19, 2020, Alec was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights. He had a great first game with his new team. He scored a goal and an assist in a 5–3 win.
In July 2021, Alec signed a new contract with the Golden Knights. In November 2021, he got hurt during a game. He was cut in the face by a skate. He returned to play in March 2022.
During the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals, Alec scored two goals. These goals helped the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup. This was his third championship! After winning, he shared the Cup with his former Kings teammate, Jonathan Quick. Alec said this win felt different because he was older now.
Playing for the Chicago Blackhawks
Alec Martinez became a free agent. On July 1, 2024, he signed a one-year contract. He joined the Chicago Blackhawks.
