Alex Lee's Musical Journey
Alex Lee has had an exciting career in music. He has played with many different bands. He also helps create music for plays, films, and TV.
Early Bands and Success
Alex joined a band called The Blue Aeroplanes in 1989. They signed a record deal and he played on their 1990 album, Swagger. In 1991, he left to form a new band, Strangelove, with Patrick Duff.
Strangelove signed with Food Records. They released three albums: Time For The Rest Of Your Life, Love & Other Demons, and Strangelove. They even had two songs, Beautiful Alone and The Greatest Show On Earth, reach the Top 40 charts. The band broke up in 1998.
Playing with Famous Rock Bands
After Strangelove, Alex Lee joined the band Suede. In 1999, he played live with them on their Head Music tour. By 2001, he became a full member of Suede. He helped write and record their fifth album, A New Morning, which came out in 2002.
In 2006, Alex was asked to join Placebo for their live shows. He played guitar and keyboards on their Meds world tour. This tour lasted until September 2007. He also played on their live album, Live At La Cigale.
Working with Goldfrapp
Alex contributed guitar to several albums by the band Goldfrapp. He played on five songs for their 2008 album, Seventh Tree. He also played on three songs for Head First in 2010. Later, he added guitar to five tracks on their 2013 album, Tales of Us. Alex also performed live with Goldfrapp on their tours for these albums.

The Passion of Joan of Arc
In 2010, Alex played in a special live performance. It was for a new soundtrack to the classic 1928 film, The Passion of Joan of Arc. The music was written by Adrian Utley from Portishead and Will Gregory from Goldfrapp. Alex was one of six guitarists playing this new music live.
Royal Shakespeare Company
Alex worked with The Royal Shakespeare Company as a musical director and guitarist. This was for a play called Dunsinane. It's a modern story that continues Shakespeare's famous play, Macbeth. The play was performed in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Stratford-Upon-Avon.
Marina & The Diamonds
In November 2011, Alex joined Marina & The Diamonds' live band. He was the guitarist and musical director. He helped promote her second album, Electra Heart. This album reached number 1 on the UK Albums Chart in May 2012.
Composing for TV and Film
Alex has also written music for many soundtracks for TV and films. He composed the music for Channel 4's documentary series Alone in the Wild in 2009.
With co-composer Nick Powell, Alex wrote music for both seasons of the BBC Three drama Lip Service. They also created original music for Hawking. This was a film about the life of scientist Stephen Hawking, released in 2013.
Florence And The Machine
In 2015, Alex worked with Florence And The Machine. He was the musical director for their live shows and promotions. This was for their third album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful. This album reached number 1 in both the US and the UK. He also did the same job for their 2018 album, High As Hope.
Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
In 2017, Alex and Nick Powell composed music for 59 Productions. They created a 20-minute animated public artwork called "Reflections". This celebrated 20 years of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. They used a technique called projection mapping on the museum building. This large show was seen by about 200,000 people.
Massive Attack Tour
In 2019, Alex played live guitar with Massive Attack. This was during their Mezzanine XX1 tour in Europe and the US.
