The Allgäu Alps are a beautiful mountain range. They are part of the Northern Limestone Alps. You can find them in Bavaria, Germany. They also stretch into Tyrol and Vorarlberg in Austria. These mountains are just east of Lake Constance.
The Allgäu Alps get a lot of rain. In fact, it's the rainiest place in Germany! Even with all that rain, there are no glaciers here. You might see some patches of snow that stay all year. Many mountains have a grassy side and a steep, rocky cliff on the other. Further south, some mountains look like the Dolomite mountains. They have deep cracks and channels.
The main river in this area is the Iller. It flows right through the middle of the mountains. The very tall peaks are mostly on the east side of the Iller. On the west side, mountains are usually not taller than 2200 meters (about 7,200 feet). People love to visit the Allgäu Alps. Many fun activities happen here, like hiking and skiing.
The Tallest Peaks
The highest mountains in the Allgäu Alps are either in Austria or right on the border between Austria and Germany. Here are the ten tallest peaks:
