Andriy Mykolayovych Yarmolenko (Ukrainian: Андрі́й Микола́йович Ярмо́ленко; born on October 23, 1989) is a famous Ukrainian footballer. He plays as a winger or forward. Currently, he plays for the Ukrainian Premier League club Dynamo Kyiv. He is also the captain of the Ukraine national team.
Yarmolenko has been a key player for Ukraine since 2009. He has scored 46 goals in 122 matches. He has also played in several big tournaments like the UEFA European Championship in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024.

Andriy Yarmolenko's Early Life
Andriy Yarmolenko's parents are from a village in Ukraine. They moved to Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) where Andriy was born in 1989. He has a younger sister. When he was three years old, his family moved back to Ukraine. They settled in the city of Chernihiv.
Andriy's mother remembers him playing with a ball from a very young age. He started playing football at the Youth Sports School "Yunist" in Chernihiv. His first coach was Mykola Lypoviy.
Yarmolenko's Club Career
Starting His Football Journey
Yarmolenko started his football training at the Chernihiv Youth Sports School "Yunist". At 13, he joined the Dynamo Kyiv Youth Academy. However, he returned to Chernihiv after a year. Before joining Dynamo Kyiv in 2007, he played for several youth clubs. These included Yunist Chernihiv and Desna Chernihiv.
Playing for Desna Chernihiv
In the summer of 2006, Yarmolenko joined Desna Chernihiv. This was the main club in his hometown. He played in the 2006–07 season in the Ukrainian First League. He made nine appearances and scored four goals for the team.
His Time at Dynamo Kyiv

In 2007, Yarmolenko signed a five-year contract with Dynamo Kyiv. He first played for their second team, Dynamo-2. People called him the "new Andriy Shevchenko" because of his talent. They admired his strength, powerful shots, and speed.
On May 11, 2008, Yarmolenko played his first game for Dynamo's main team. He scored the winning goal in a 2–1 victory. He quickly became a regular player. He often played as a left or central forward. He scored many goals for Dynamo Kyiv over the years.
Moving to Borussia Dortmund
On August 28, 2017, Yarmolenko joined Borussia Dortmund in Germany. He signed a four-year contract. He made his debut on September 10, 2017. He scored his first goal for Dortmund in a Champions League game.
Playing for West Ham United

On July 11, 2018, Yarmolenko moved to the Premier League club West Ham United. He signed a four-year contract. He scored his first two goals for West Ham on September 16, 2018. This helped his team win their first Premier League game of the season.
He faced some injuries during his time at West Ham. However, he always came back strong. In March 2022, after the conflict in Ukraine began, he scored an important goal for West Ham. This helped them reach a European quarter-final for the first time since 1981. West Ham announced he would leave the club in June 2022.
Short Spell at Al-Ain
On July 13, 2022, Yarmolenko signed a one-year contract with Al-Ain, a club in the United Arab Emirates.
Returning to Dynamo Kyiv
On June 27, 2023, Yarmolenko made a big return to Dynamo Kyiv. He signed a two-year contract with his former club.
Yarmolenko's International Career
Yarmolenko played for the Ukraine under-19 team in 2007. He also played for the under-21 squad from 2008 to 2011.
On September 5, 2009, he made his first appearance for the senior Ukraine team. He scored a goal in a 5–0 win against Andorra. On September 2, 2011, he set a national record. He scored a goal just 14 seconds into a friendly match. This was the fastest goal ever scored by a Ukraine national team player.
Yarmolenko has scored many important goals for Ukraine. He scored a hat-trick (three goals) against Luxembourg in 2014. He also helped Ukraine qualify for Euro 2016. He played in all three matches at that tournament. He continued to score in later Euro tournaments, including Euro 2020.
On September 1, 2021, Yarmolenko played his 100th game for Ukraine. This was a big milestone in his career.
Coaching Career
On September 20, 2024, Yarmolenko earned his UEFA "A" coaching license. He completed coaching courses in Kyiv, Ukraine. This means he can now coach football teams at a high level.

Andriy Yarmolenko is married to Inna and they have three sons.
In 2020, a mural of Yarmolenko was created in Chernihiv. It is on the building of the Yunost Youth Sports School. This is near the Yunist Stadium.
In October 2021, he was named an honorary citizen of Chernihiv. This was a special recognition from his hometown. A football competition called the "Andriy Yarmolenko Cup" also takes place at the Yunist Stadium.
In February 2022, Yarmolenko showed great support for his country. He donated £75,000 to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also helped his wife and child leave the country safely. The mayor of Chernihiv thanked him for his efforts. He even sent an ambulance from London to his hometown of Chernihiv in May 2022.
Yarmolenko also helped other footballers. He helped the parents of Roman Yaremchuk's wife leave Chernihiv. This shows his kindness and support for others during difficult times.
