Antonio Maceda's Club Career

Antonio Maceda was born in Sagunto, a town in Spain. He played for two main clubs during his career: Sporting de Gijón and Real Madrid.

Starting at Sporting Gijón

In his second year as a professional, Antonio helped Sporting de Gijón finish second in La Liga. This was a great achievement for the team. He became a very important player in their defense for many seasons.

He scored nine goals in his last two years with Sporting Gijón. This showed he was not just a defender but also a goal threat!

Moving to Real Madrid

Because of his great skills, Antonio moved to the giant club Real Madrid. In his first season there (1985–86), he scored five goals. That year, Real Madrid won both the La Liga title and the UEFA Cup.

However, Antonio suffered a serious injury while playing for the national team. This injury forced him to retire from football in 1988. He was only 31 years old. He played 223 games in Spain's top league and scored 24 goals.
