Anwaar ul-Haq Kakar (born in 1971) is a Pakistani politician. He served as the caretaker prime minister of Pakistan. This means he led the government for a short time to prepare for new elections. He was prime minister from August 14, 2023, to March 4, 2024.
Before becoming prime minister, Kakar was a member of the Senate of Pakistan. This is one of the two houses of Pakistan's parliament. He also worked as a spokesperson for the government of Balochistan province from 2015 to 2017.

Early Life and Education
Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar was born on May 15, 1971. His birthplace was Qilla Saifullah in Balochistan. He comes from a well-known middle-class family. His grandfather was a doctor, and his father was a government worker. Some of his other relatives were also involved in politics.
Kakar went to St. Francis School, Quetta and later to Cadet College Kohat. He earned two master's degrees from the University of Balochistan. He studied political science and sociology there in the 1990s. After his studies, he returned to Pakistan in 2005.
Academic Career
Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar started his career as a teacher. He is very good with languages. He can speak Pashto, Urdu, Persian, English, Balochi, and Brahui.
Political Career
While working for the Balochistan government, Kakar started an organization. It was called Voice of Balochistan (VOB) in 2016. This group aimed to share positive news about Balochistan. It also promoted the work of the government and military in the region.
Becoming a Senator (2006–2023)
Kakar began his political journey in 2006. He joined a political party called PML-Q. In 2008, he tried to win a seat in the National Assembly from Quetta. However, he was not successful.
From 2007 to 2013, Kakar supported government actions in Balochistan. He believed these actions were important for peace. In 2015, he became the spokesperson for the Chief Minister of Balochistan. He held this important job until 2018.
In 2018, Kakar left his old party. He helped create a new political party called the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). Soon after, he was chosen to be a member of the Senate of Pakistan. He took his oath as a Senator on March 12, 2018. As a Senator, he led the Committee for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. He was also part of other important committees.
Caretaker Prime Minister (2023–2024)

In 2023, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar was chosen to be the Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan. He was nominated by the outgoing prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif. The president of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, approved his appointment. Kakar took his oath on August 14, 2023. This day is also Pakistan's 76th Independence Day. On the same day, he resigned from his position as a Senator.
In October 2023, Kakar's government made a decision. They asked all people living in Pakistan without proper documents to leave. This included many Afghan nationals. Kakar explained that this policy applied to all illegal immigrants. He noted that Pakistan had hosted millions of Afghan refugees for many years.
In October 2023, he also asked for a ceasefire in the Israel–Hamas war. In November 2023, Kakar spoke about the situation in Gaza. He said that the suffering of Palestinian children must stop right away.
