The arrondissement of Confolens is an arrondissement of France, in the Charente department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its capital is the city of Confolens.

History

When the Charente department was created on 1800, the arrondissement of Confolens was part of that original department.

Geography

The arrondissement of Confolens is the largest arrondissement of the department with an area of 2,267.7 km2 (875.6 sq mi). It has 64,252 inhabitants and a density of 28.3 inhabitants/km².

The arrondissement of Confolens is in northern Charente and is bordered to the northwest by the Deux-Sèvres department, to the north by the Vienne department, to the east and southeast by the Haute-Vienne department, to the south by the arrondissement of Angoulême, to the southwest by the arrondissement of Cognac, to the west by the Charente-Maritime department.

It has a small border with the Dordogne department to the southeast.
