Where the Arros River Flows
The Arros river begins in a forest called Forêt des Baronnies. This is near Esparros commune (a small town area) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department. The river starts at an altitude of about 586 m (1,922.6 ft).
From its start, the Arros flows mostly from south to north. It travels through the Hautes-Pyrénées department, passing towns like Bourg-de-Bigorre, Tournay, and Chelle-Debat. Then, it enters the Gers department. Here, it flows through towns such as Montégut-Arros and Villecomtal-sur-Arros.
The Arros river joins the Adour river about 4 km (2.5 mi) from Plaisance. This meeting point, called a confluence, is at an altitude of about 113 m (370.7 ft).
The Arros river flows through 55 different communes. Two of these towns are named after the river itself: Montégut-Arros and Villecomtal-sur-Arros. Both are in the Gers department.
