Aymeric Laporte is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back (a defender in the middle) for Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr. He was born in France on May 27, 1994, but now plays for the Spain national team.
Laporte joined Athletic Bilbao in 2010 when he was just 16. He was only the second French-born player to play for the club. He played 222 games for them. In January 2018, he moved to Manchester City. With Manchester City, he helped win many important trophies. This included the "domestic treble" in 2019 (winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup). He also won the "continental treble" in 2023 (winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League).
Laporte played 51 games for France's youth teams. He was called up to the senior French team twice but did not play. In 2021, he became a Spanish citizen. He then joined Spain's squad for UEFA Euro 2020. He also played for Spain in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and helped them win Euro 2024.

Early Life and Football Beginnings
Aymeric Jean Louis Gérard Alphonse Laporte was born in Agen, France. His family has Basque roots. He started playing both football and rugby when he was five years old. He began his football training at Agen's academy.
In 2009, Athletic Bilbao noticed his talent and invited him to join their club. Because he was too young to move outside France, he first spent a season playing for Bayonne.
Club Career Highlights
Starting at Athletic Bilbao

Laporte officially joined Athletic Bilbao in 2010. He started in their youth academy. On November 28, 2012, he made his first team debut. He played a full game in a UEFA Europa League match.
He played his first La Liga game on December 9, 2012. Soon after, he became a regular player for the first team. He signed a new contract and was given the number four shirt.
Laporte became a key player under coach Ernesto Valverde. He scored his first professional goal on October 28, 2013. At the end of the 2013–14 season, he was chosen for the La Liga Team of the Year. In 2015, Athletic Bilbao won the 2015 Supercopa de España, their first trophy in 31 years, with Laporte playing a big part.
Moving to Manchester City
In January 2018, Laporte joined Manchester City. The transfer fee was about £57 million, which was a record for both clubs at the time. He was given the number 14 shirt. Just one day after signing, he played his first game for Manchester City in the Premier League. City won 3–0. He helped them achieve a record 100 points in the Premier League that season.
Laporte scored his first goal for City on August 25, 2018. In the 2018–19 season, he played 51 games. Manchester City won the first "domestic treble" in English football history. This meant they won the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup. He scored five goals that season, including an important one on the final day of the Premier League. On August 31, 2019, Laporte got a knee injury and needed surgery.

International Career Journey
Playing for France's Youth Teams
Laporte played for various French national youth teams. He was the captain for the under-17, under-18, under-19, and under-21 teams. In 2013, he was part of the team that finished second in the 2013 UEFA European Under-19 Championship. He was also chosen for the Team of the Tournament.
In March 2016, Laporte suffered a serious leg injury while playing for the France U21 team. This ended his season early. He was called up to the senior French team in October 2016 but did not play in any matches. In August 2019, he was called up again for Euro 2020 qualifiers, but an injury prevented him from playing.
Switching to Spain
In May 2021, Aymeric Laporte was granted Spanish citizenship. This allowed him to play for the Spain national team. FIFA approved this change, and he was included in Spain's squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament.
On June 4, 2021, he made his debut for Spain in a friendly game against Portugal. He scored his first goal for Spain on June 23, 2021, in a 5–0 win against Slovakia during the Euro 2020 group stage.
