What is the Azerbaijani Land Force?
The Azerbaijani Land Force is the part of the military that fights on land. They are also known as the ground forces. Their soldiers are trained to protect the country's borders and land.
How the Army Grew
After the Soviet Union ended, Azerbaijan started to build its own strong army. They wanted a military that was professional and well-trained. This process has been ongoing since 1991.
In 2007, the Land Force had about 56,840 soldiers. There were also 15,000 paramilitary troops. Paramilitary troops are like a special police force that can help the army. Many people who served in the military before can also be called upon if needed.
Who Helps the Army?
During a war, the Land Force gets help from other groups. These include the Azerbaijani National Guard and the Internal Troops of Azerbaijan. The State Border Service of Azerbaijan also helps. They protect Azerbaijan's borders with countries like Georgia, Russia, Iran, Turkey, and Armenia.
Training and Weapons
Azerbaijan sends its soldiers to other countries for training. They have trained in Turkey, Russia, and Israel. These countries also sell weapons to Azerbaijan. This helps the Azerbaijani army stay strong and modern.
Protecting the Country
Since the Nagorno-Karabakh War ended, Azerbaijan has worked to make its army even stronger. This is to protect the country's land. The region of Nagorno-Karabakh is legally part of Azerbaijan.
