The town's early economy was based on agriculture, which means farming. Farmers grew crops like wheat, corn, peanuts, and cotton. They also grew fruits such as watermelons and peaches. Later, dairy farming became important. Local milk was sold to creameries in Fort Worth.
Azle's population grew steadily. By 1920, 150 people lived there. In 1933, a highway connected Azle to Fort Worth. This made travel much easier. Also, Eagle Mountain Lake was created nearby by building a dam.
In the late 1930s, Azle got electricity. The population grew a lot, from 800 people in 1940 to 2,696 in 1960. By 1980, it was 5,822. Over time, farming became less important. Farmland was turned into housing developments. More factories and businesses came to Azle. In 1984, there were 26 businesses. By 2000, the population reached 9,600.
