The bark anole, also known as Orton's anole, is a type of lizard. Its scientific name is Anolis ortonii. This lizard belongs to a group of reptiles called Dactyloidae. It's often called the "bark anole" because its skin can look a lot like tree bark, helping it hide. The name "Orton's anole" was given to honor a person named James Orton.

Where Does the Bark Anole Live?

The bark anole lives in many countries in northern South America. You can find it in places that are east of the Andes Mountains. These countries include Brazil, French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia.
