William Fagerbakke (born October 4, 1957) is an American actor. He is famous for being the voice of Patrick Star in the SpongeBob SquarePants shows and movies. He also played Michael "Dauber" Dybinski on the TV show Coach. You might also know him as Marvin, Marshall Eriksen's dad, from the sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

Early Life and School

Bill Fagerbakke was born in Fontana, California, on October 4, 1957. He grew up in Rupert, Idaho. He finished high school in Rupert in 1975. In high school, he was a great athlete, playing football, basketball, and running track.

Even though he could have played college football at bigger schools, Bill chose to stay in Idaho. He went to the University of Idaho in Moscow. He played defensive lineman for the Vandals football team. A knee injury during practice ended his football career. After that, he started focusing on acting.

Bill's first acting role was in a play called Godspell at his university. He earned his college degree in 1981. Later, he went to graduate school at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

Bill Fagerbakke has been in many TV shows and movies. He played assistant coach "Dauber" Dybinski on the TV show Coach. He was also in the movie Funny Farm. In 1994, he played Tom Cullen in the mini-series Stephen King's The Stand.

Since 1999, Bill has been the voice of Patrick Star on the popular cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants. His character "Dauber" on Coach was actually based on a real assistant coach from his college days.

In 2007, he had a small role on the show Heroes. He also played Marvin Eriksen Sr. in the TV show How I Met Your Mother for many years. In 2009, he was in the movie Jennifer's Body. He also appeared in an episode of Weeds in 2012.

More recently, in 2022, Bill was a guest star in the TV show Dynasty. His daughter, Carson Fagerbakke, also appeared in that episode as his character's daughter.

Bill's Family Life

In 1989, Bill Fagerbakke married actress Catherine McClenahan. They have two daughters, and one of them is actress Carson Fagerbakke. In 2012, they separated.
