Brachyelytrum is a small group of plants that are part of the grass family. You can find these grasses growing in North America and East Asia. Scientists have placed Brachyelytrum in its very own special group, called a tribe, known as Brachyelytreae.
Scientists have studied the DNA of these plants. Their research shows that Brachyelytrum is one of the oldest groups of plants in the Pooideae subfamily. This subfamily is also known as the "cool season grasses." Many important crops we eat every day, like barley, wheat, and oats, belong to this large family of grasses.
