Brentwood College School is a school where both boys and girls live and study together. It's called a co-educational boarding school. You can find Brentwood on Vancouver Island in Mill Bay, British Columbia, Canada.

The Story of Brentwood College School

Brentwood College School first opened its doors in 1923. It was originally located in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, which is near Saanich on Vancouver Island. This is how the school got its name.

In 1947, a fire destroyed the original school building. Only the chapel was left standing. The new school was built across the bay in Mill Bay. It officially opened in September 1961.

In 1972, Brentwood College made history. It became the first all-boys boarding school in Canada to welcome girls. They started with 20 girls in Grade 12. By the fall, it was officially a school for both boys and girls.

There are eight places for students to live, called residences. The school also has two main buildings for classes.

For sports, there's a boathouse for rowing and a big sports complex. Students can also use laundry facilities, a cafeteria, and a health centre.

Buildings That Help the Earth

Brentwood has special buildings that are good for the environment. They use a system called a geothermal loop for heating and cooling. This shows the school's commitment to using sustainable energy.

The T. Gil Bunch Centre

Art and Mary Jane Crooks Hall

Crooks Hall was built in 2010. This building has a dining room right by the ocean. It can seat 350 people at once.

Crooks Hall also has other important areas. These include The Saville Centre for Business and Entrepreneurship. You'll also find the School Store and services for laundry and mail here.

Centre for Arts and Humanities

In 2012, Brentwood added another new building. This one is for the school's fine arts programs and humanities courses. It's a big building, 30,000 square feet (2,787 square metres).

It's located right on the oceanfront. Inside, there are 16,000 square feet (1,486 square metres) of visual arts studios. There are also two digital media studios. The entrance is very tall, about 25 feet high, and leads into a long art gallery corridor.
