Cairo (pronounced KAY-roh) is a city in Grady County, Georgia, in the United States. In 2020, about 10,179 people lived there. Cairo is also the main city, or county seat, of Grady County. It's sometimes called "Georgia's Hospitality City" or "The Syrup City."

History of Cairo

Cairo was started in 1835. It became a town in 1870 and then a city in 1906. In 1905, Cairo was chosen to be the county seat for the new Grady County. The city's name comes from Cairo, the capital city of Egypt.

Geography and Climate

Cairo is located in the middle of Grady County. It's about 25.4 square kilometers (or 9.8 square miles) in total area. Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

You can reach Cairo using major roads like U.S. Route 84 and Georgia State Route 93. These roads connect Cairo to other cities like Thomasville, Bainbridge, and Tallahassee, Florida.
