Capalaba West was a small area on the edge of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was located about 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) east of the city center. Today, this area is no longer called Capalaba West.
What Was Capalaba West?
Capalaba West used to be known as an "outer suburb." This means it was an area on the outskirts of the main city of Brisbane. It was a quiet place with a small population.
Early Days in Capalaba
The wider Capalaba region began to be settled a long time ago, in 1859. At that time, the Queensland Government wanted more people to move to the area. They offered special reasons and help to encourage new settlers to come and live there.
Why Did Capalaba West Change?
In 2010, there was a plan to change the name of Capalaba West. The government department in charge of land names, the Department of Environment and Resource Management, asked people what they thought about this idea.
The plan was to stop using the name Capalaba West. Instead, the area would become part of the nearby suburb called Chandler. On April 30, 2010, this change officially happened. Capalaba West was then absorbed, or became part of, the suburb of Chandler. So, Capalaba West no longer exists as a separate named place on maps.
