It is named after Neville Bonner. He was a very important person because he was the first Indigenous Australian to be elected to the Parliament of Australia. Mr. Bonner was a Liberal Senator for Queensland. There are only three other areas like Bonner named after Aboriginal people. These are Bennelong in New South Wales, Blair in Queensland, and Lingiari in the Northern Territory.
