Carlos Cornelius Rogers (born July 2, 1981) is a former American football player. He played as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). Carlos played college football for the Auburn Tigers. He was recognized as an All-American for his amazing skills. The Washington Redskins picked him ninth overall in the 2005 NFL draft. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.

Carlos Rogers' Early Life and Sports

Carlos Rogers was born in Augusta, Georgia. He grew up in Thomson, Georgia, before his family moved to Augusta when he was in middle school. Carlos went to Butler High School. There, he was a star in football, basketball, and track and field.

In football, Carlos played both offense and defense. During his senior year, he ran for 1,332 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He also made 47 tackles and had two interceptions. He was named a SuperPrep All-American. In basketball, he averaged over 13 points per game. For track, he ran the 100-meter dash in 10.7 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 21.0 seconds.

College Football Career

Carlos Rogers attended Auburn University and played for the Auburn Tigers football team from 2001 to 2004. He started 44 games during his four years there. He finished his college career with 182 tackles and seven interceptions. Carlos holds Auburn's record for the most pass deflections with 40. This is also the second-highest in SEC history. He was even named to Auburn's All-Decade Team for the 2000s. Carlos earned a degree in sociology.

Freshman Year Highlights (2001)

As a freshman, Carlos started 10 out of 12 games. He had 58 tackles and 12 pass deflections. In a game against Mississippi State University, he made a career-high ten tackles. Auburn played in the 2001 Peach Bowl that year. Carlos was chosen as a Freshman All-American by The Sporting News.

Sophomore Year Highlights (2002)

In 2002, Carlos started 9 out of 13 games. He recorded 48 tackles and four interceptions. In a game against Syracuse University, he had two interceptions.

Junior Year Highlights (2003)

During his junior year, Carlos played in 12 games. He had an interception and four tackles in a game against the University of Tennessee. He finished the season with 29 tackles and nine pass deflections. Auburn played in the 2003 Music City Bowl and won.

Senior Year Highlights (2004)

In his senior season, Carlos started every game. He helped lead Auburn to a perfect 13–0 undefeated season. He finished with 47 tackles and two interceptions. Carlos won the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the best defensive back in college football. He was also named an All-American.

The Washington Redskins chose Carlos Rogers in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft. He was the ninth player picked overall. He was the second cornerback chosen in that draft.

2005 Season with Redskins

Carlos played his first NFL game on August 19, 2005. He intercepted a pass and helped his team score a touchdown. He made his first regular season start on October 2. In that game, he had seven tackles. On November 27, he got his first NFL interception. He finished his first season with 40 tackles and two interceptions. He also played in the Redskins' two playoff games.

Carlos started 15 games in 2006. He had a career-high 88 tackles and 17 pass deflections.

2007 Season with Redskins

On October 7, Carlos scored his first career touchdown by intercepting a pass and running it back 61 yards. He started the first seven games of the season. He recorded 30 tackles and one interception before an injury ended his season early.

2008 Season with Redskins

Carlos returned from his knee injury in 2008. He played in all 16 regular season games for the first time in his career. He made 53 tackles and had two interceptions. In one game, he made a diving interception and ran 42 yards, setting up a touchdown for his team.

2009 Season with Redskins

In 2009, Carlos played in 16 regular season games. He had 46 tackles and 12 pass deflections. He helped the Redskins defense rank among the top ten in the league.

2012 Season with 49ers

On March 14, 2012, Carlos signed a new four-year contract with the 49ers. In the 2012 season, Carlos and the 49ers played in Super Bowl XLVII. He had three tackles in the game, but the 49ers lost a close game. He was ranked 69th among the top 100 players in the NFL by his fellow players.

2013 Season with 49ers

Carlos had a good year in 2013 with 47 tackles and 2 interceptions. The 49ers released him on March 10, 2014.

Playing for the Oakland Raiders

On March 31, 2014, Carlos Rogers signed with the Oakland Raiders. He played seven games for them before his career ended.
