Charlton was named after a well-known doctor. The town is also home to the Charlton Historic District, which has many old and important buildings.

History of Charlton
The area that is now Charlton was first settled around 1680. These early settlers came from a small village named Charlton in Worcestershire, United Kingdom.
Town Formation
The Town of Charlton was officially created in 1792. This happened right after Saratoga County was formed. Before it became Charlton, the town was known as "Freehold." This name was used because many settlers came from New Jersey.
