Early Life and First Steps
Chasen Hampton was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His family has roots in the Cherokee and Sac-Fox Native American tribes. He is the only child of Bill and Kenyan Hampton. Chasen started singing when he was only two years old! By the time he was 15, he signed his first music contract with Disney's Hollywood Records.
Chasen has performed his music all over the world. He has also appeared on TV channels like MTV, VH1, and E!. He starred in TV shows such as Fox's The X-Files and HBO's Big Love. He also helped start a record label called Buzzfly Records with producer Mike Vizcarra. This gave him the freedom to create music with many talented musicians.
Before acting and singing, Chasen learned circus skills. As a child, he worked as a professional clown. Later, he became good at juggling and fire-spinning. He first appeared on TV in a show called Romper Room. After that, he had a small role in an independent movie called Offerings.
Becoming a Mouseketeer
In 1988, when Chasen was 13, he and his parents tried out for a Disney TV movie. This movie was meant to bring back the original 1950s Mouseketeers from the Mickey Mouse Club. Disney was looking for new child Mouseketeers to join the older ones. Chasen was chosen!
However, Disney changed their plans. Instead of a movie, they decided to bring back The Mickey Mouse Club as a new TV series for The Disney Channel. Chasen and other chosen kids became the new cast of The All-New Mickey Mouse Club. He was on the show for four seasons from 1989 to 1992. He later returned as a co-host for the final season in 1994–1995.
Music with The Party
In 1990, the producers of The All-New Mickey Mouse Club wanted to create a teen pop group. They chose Chasen, along with Damon Pampolina, Albert Fields, Deedee Magno, and Tiffini Hale. Viewers voted to name the group, and they became The Party.
The Party released four albums with Disney's Hollywood Records. They had five hit songs on the Billboard music chart. Their remake of the song "In My Dreams" was their biggest hit, reaching number 34.
Later Career and Solo Music
After The Party, Chasen continued to act in TV shows and movies. He was also the lead singer for the rock band Buzzfly. He also started releasing music as a solo artist. Chasen has worked as a mentor and coach, helping young performers at a top performing arts school in Los Angeles, California. He was also the music director for two of the school's locations.
Chasen has performed with many famous people in entertainment. His music has been produced by well-known artists like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. He has appeared with actors like Ryan Gosling, Keri Russell, and Jessica Biel. He has also performed with music stars such as Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Slash from Guns N' Roses.
On May 16, 2007, Chasen released his first solo album, an eight-song collection called Something to Believe EP. He released it on his own Buzzfly Records label. On August 20, 2010, he released his second solo album, Drugstore Girls EP, also on Buzzfly Records. He went on tour in the southeastern U.S. to promote this album.
In 2011, Chasen helped create and produce live concerts for a children's music artist named Riff Rockit. He also wrote and did voiceovers for the 2013 movie Riff Rockit: The Power of Music. In the movie, he voiced the character Ben Jammin. He even hired some of his old The All-New Mickey Mouse Club co-stars to do voices for the project, including Damon Pampolina and Deedee Magno Hall.
In 2014, Chasen worked with rap artists Reks and Dutch ReBelle on a hip-hop song called "I Can't Breathe." The song talked about important social issues and the need for understanding. It was released on March 20, 2015, and quickly reached number 7 on the iTunes hip-hop/rap charts.
On April 12, 2019, Chasen released a cover of the song "I'd Die Without You" by P.M. Dawn. He sang it with his former bandmate, Deedee Magno Hall. On May 28, 2021, he released another digital song called "Nobody."
