Christopher James Barnett (born June 14, 1986) is an American professional mixed martial artist. He competes in the Heavyweight division. He is part of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

About Chris Barnett
Barnett was born in Zaragoza, Spain. His father was a captain in the United States Air Force stationed there. When Chris was about four years old, his family moved back to the United States. They eventually settled in Georgia.
Early Training and Education
Both of Chris's parents are black belts in Taekwondo. He started training in this martial art around age five. Later, Barnett attended Campbellsville University and the University of South Florida. He earned a bachelor's degree.
At Campbellsville, Barnett received a scholarship for Wrestling. He also began training in Judo there. Chris was invited to try mixed martial arts after showing off his moves in a dance battle. He started training right away.
Chris Barnett's Fighting Career
Starting in Mixed Martial Arts
Chris Barnett began his professional fighting career in 2009. He mostly fought in the Xtreme Fighting Championships. He had a great start, winning his first five fights. Four of these wins were by knockout.
He also competed in well-known Asian organizations. These included Rizin Fighting Federation, Road Fighting Championship, and Inoki Genome Federation.
Joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship
After 12 years of fighting, Barnett finally got a call from the UFC. He stepped in on short notice to fight Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night 188 on May 22, 2021. Barnett lost this fight by submission in the second round.
In his next fight, Barnett faced Gian Villante at UFC 268 on November 6, 2021. This fight took place in Madison Square Garden. Barnett won by technical knockout in the second round. He used a spinning wheel kick and punches to get the win. This impressive victory earned him the Performance of the Night bonus award.
Barnett then fought Martin Buday at UFC Fight Night 206 on April 16, 2022. Barnett lost this fight by technical unanimous decision. He could not continue after an accidental elbow to the back of his head in the third round.
Barnetts next fight was against Jake Collier on September 10, 2022, at UFC 279. Barnett weighed in slightly over the heavyweight limit for this fight. He was fined 20% of his earnings, which went to his opponent. Barnett was knocked down in the first round. However, he came back strong and won the fight by TKO in the second round.
Barnett was scheduled to fight Chase Sherman on April 8, 2023, at UFC 287. However, Barnett had to withdraw from the fight. Karl Williams replaced him.
He was also scheduled to face Mohammed Usman on March 23, 2024, at UFC on ESPN 53. Barnett withdrew from this fight as well. Mick Parkin took his place.
Barnett was scheduled to fight Waldo Cortes-Acosta on October 12, 2024, at UFC Fight Night 244. Cortes-Acosta withdrew, and Junior Tafa replaced him. Barnett then also withdrew because he could not travel due to Hurricane Milton. Sean Sharaf, a new UFC fighter, stepped in.
Replacing an injured Justin Tafa, Barnett was scheduled to face Kennedy Nzechukwu on October 26, 2024, at UFC 308. Barnett lost this fight by technical knockout in the first round.
Barnett is scheduled to face Hamdy Abdelwahab on October 25, 2025, at UFC 321.
Personal Life
Chris Barnett's wife passed away in May 2022. They have a daughter and a son together.
