Connie Victoria Elizabeth Talbot (born 20 November 2000) is a British singer. She became famous as the runner-up on the first season of Britain's Got Talent in 2007. After the show, she signed with Rainbow Recording Company. Her first album, Over the Rainbow, came out on 26 November 2007. It sold over 250,000 copies around the world and reached number one in three countries.
Connie's second album, Connie Talbot's Christmas Album, was released in November 2008. Her third, Holiday Magic, came out in October 2009. Her fourth album, Beautiful World, was released in November 2012. In 2019, she competed on Britain's Got Talent: The Champions. In 2020, she also appeared on America's Got Talent: The Champions.
Connie's Journey to Stardom
Starting on Britain's Got Talent
Connie Talbot first tried out for Britain's Got Talent just for fun. She was only six years old. The judges, including Simon Cowell, were very impressed. Simon Cowell called her "pure magic." This made Connie feel much more confident.
Many people expected her performance to be a joke because she had never taken singing lessons. But her first performance got attention from all over the world. She made it to the final round after winning her semi-final. She sang "Ben" by Michael Jackson live. In the final, she sang "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz. She came in second place, losing to Paul Potts by public vote.
Connie's performances inspired many other children to audition for the show. Even George Sampson, who won the second season, said Connie was "out of this league."
Record Deal and First Album
After Britain's Got Talent, Simon Cowell's record label, Sony BMG, thought about signing Connie. She recorded two songs with them, "Over the Rainbow" and "Smile." However, the label decided not to sign her because they felt she was too young. They said it wouldn't be right for her at that time.
In October 2007, Connie signed a big deal with the Rainbow Recording Company. This company was created just for her. Her first album, Over the Rainbow, was released on 26 November 2007. Many music experts thought she could become a huge star, like Charlotte Church.
The album was a big success. It was certified gold in the UK very quickly. This means it sold a lot of copies. At first, 50,000 copies were made, but they had to make 120,000 more because it sold out so fast.

Connie made many public appearances to promote her album. She performed at Christmas festivals and in music stores. She also appeared on TV shows. Her mother mentioned that Connie even received offers for movie roles.
Music critics had mixed feelings about the album. Some praised her "sweet, pure voice" for a seven-year-old. Others felt that while she sang well, her performances lacked deep emotion because of her young age.
The album was re-released in June 2008 with new songs. The first single from it, "Three Little Birds", came out in June 2008.
Touring Asia and America
In April and May 2008, Connie toured Asia to promote Over the Rainbow. Her success was partly due to her videos on YouTube. Some of her videos had been watched millions of times. She visited South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Her album reached number one in Taiwan, South Korea, and Hong Kong, and number three in Singapore. After Asia, she also performed in Poland.
Over the Rainbow was released in the United States in October 2008. Connie appeared on American TV shows like The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote it.
There were plans for a video game called Connie Talbot: Over the Rainbow for the Wii console. Players would be able to sing along to her songs. However, the game was later cancelled due to issues with song licenses.
Christmas Albums and Charity Work
In November 2008, Connie released Connie Talbot's Christmas Album. She recorded it in her bedroom studio. It featured classic and modern Christmas songs. A TV special called Christmas with Connie showed her journey to America and a secret concert at her school.
In April 2009, Connie went to the US again to promote her new single, a cover of "I Will Always Love You".
Her third album, Connie Talbot's Holiday Magic, was released in October 2009 in the US and November 2009 in the UK. This album was dedicated to the Toys for Tots campaign. Connie was named their youngest child ambassador. She helped raise awareness for children who might not receive toys for Christmas. A TV special called Holiday Magic was also produced, featuring her performances.
Music and YouTube Success (2010-2015)
Connie performed for a huge audience in 2011 on Chinese state television for the Chinese New Year. About 400 million people watched the event.
During these years, Connie continued to upload videos of her performances to YouTube. Her covers of songs like Katy Perry's "Firework" and Bruno Mars's "Grenade" were very popular. Her cover of Adele's "Someone Like You" was especially praised for how graceful and effortless it seemed.
In November 2011, she released "Beautiful World" as a single. Connie wrote this song when she was seven years old.
Connie toured with the Young Voices choir in 2013, performing across the UK. She also became an ambassador for the African Children's Choir and had a school named after her.
In 2014, she performed concerts in South Korea. She wore yellow ribbons to show respect for the families affected by the Sewol ferry tragedy. The money from some of these concerts went to help the victims' families. A DVD and Blu-ray of her 2012 Beautiful World tour concerts in Hong Kong and Taiwan were also released.
In November 2014, Connie released a five-song EP called Gravity. It included her original songs "Gravity" and "Inner Beauty."
