Corgémont is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is found in the French-speaking part of the canton, nestled in the beautiful Jura mountains.

History of Corgémont
Corgémont was first written about in 1178. Back then, it was called Coriamont. In 1179, a powerful church leader, Pope Alexander III, confirmed that the Abbey of Moutier-Grandval had rights to land in Corgémont.
From the 12th to the 15th century, a noble family called de Corgémont owned much of the village. They had received this land from the Prince-Bishop of Basel, who was a ruler and a bishop. Later, the d'Asuel family took over this property.
Corgémont was part of the Barony of Erguel, which was controlled by the Prince-Bishops. In 1530, the city of Biel brought the Reformation to Corgémont. This was a big change in how people practiced Christianity.
Geography and Landscape
Corgémont covers an area of about 17.6 square kilometers (6.8 square miles). A large part of this land, about 55.9%, is used for farming. This means you'll see many fields and pastures.
Forests cover a big portion too, about 37.6% of the area. The rest of the land, about 6.2%, has buildings and roads. A tiny bit, 0.2%, is made up of rivers.
In 2010, Corgémont became part of a new administrative area called Arrondissement administratif Jura bernois. This was a change in how the local government was organized.
Corgémont's Coat of Arms
Every town has a special symbol, called a coat of arms. Corgémont's coat of arms is described as Gules a Guidon Argent. This means it has a red (Gules) background with a silver (Argent) flag, called a guidon, on it.
Population and Languages
Corgémont has a population of about 1,547 people (as of 2022). About 11.4% of the people living here are from other countries. Over the past ten years, the population has grown a little.
Most people in Corgémont speak French as their main language, about 77.5%. German is the second most common language, spoken by about 16.1% of the people. A smaller number, about 3.3%, speak Italian.
In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males (49.8%) and females (50.2%). Many people living in Corgémont were born there or in the same canton.
Young people, aged 0 to 19, make up about 23.2% of the population. Adults, aged 20 to 64, are the largest group at 57.8%. Seniors, over 64 years old, make up 19.1%.
Important Heritage Site
The Bibliothèque De La Conférence Mennonite Suisse, which is a library, is a very important place in Corgémont. It is listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance. This means it's a special building that is protected because of its historical or cultural importance.
Economy and Jobs
In 2011, Corgémont had a low unemployment rate of 2.64%. This means most people who wanted to work had a job.

Education System
In Corgémont, many people have completed higher education. About 38.8% of the population finished non-mandatory upper secondary education, and 8.4% went on to university or a specialized college.
The school system in the Canton of Bern works like this:
- One year of non-mandatory Kindergarten.
- Six years of Primary school.
- Three years of obligatory lower Secondary school. Students are grouped by their abilities.
- After lower Secondary, students can continue their schooling or start an apprenticeship to learn a trade.
During the 2010-2011 school year, there were 331 students in Corgémont schools. This included 42 kindergarten students, 86 primary students, and 203 lower secondary students. Some students were from other countries or spoke a different language at home.
Transportation Options
Corgémont has its own railway station, called Corgémont. This station is on the Biel/Bienne–La Chaux-de-Fonds line. You can catch a train every hour to Biel/Bienne and La Chaux-de-Fonds.
