Cottens was once a small town, or municipality, in the Vaud canton of Switzerland. It was located in the Morges area. On July 1, 2021, Cottens joined with several other towns like Apples, Pampigny, Sévery, Bussy-Chardonney, and Reverolle to form a new, larger municipality called Hautemorges.

Cottens has a long history! The town was first written about in the year 1041. Back then, it was known by the name Chotens.

Cottens covers an area of about 2.36 square kilometers (0.91 square miles). This is roughly the size of 330 football fields! A large part of this land, about 75%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 15% of the area. The remaining 11% is where buildings and roads are located.

The town is found where two important roads meet. These roads connect Aubonne to Cossonay, and Morges to Col du Mollendruz. Cottens used to be part of the Cossonay District. But in 2006, it became part of the new Morges District.
