History of Cove
Long ago, the land where Cove is now was important to the Cayuse and Nez Perce Native American tribes. They called it Wiweeletitpe, which means "Many creeks flowing at that place."
The first European-American settlers arrived in 1862. In 1863, they opened a post office called Forest Cove. Later, in 1868, the name was changed to Cove. This was done to avoid confusion with another town in Oregon called Forest Grove.
Cove was officially planned out, or platted, in the 1870s. It was built along Ruckles Road, which was only the second road to cross the Blue Mountains.
