The DC101 Chili Cook-Off was a yearly rock concert held in the Washington, D.C. area. It was put on by the radio station WWDC (FM), also known as DC101. Money raised from the event went to the National Capital Area chapter of the National Kidney Foundation. This charity helps people with kidney disease.
The event's name comes from a chili cooking contest that used to happen there. Even though it was called a "Chili Cook-Off," sometimes there wasn't any chili! But in 2013, you could find chili at three different booths. The main part of the event was always the rock music concert. There were also many booths set up by different sellers and sponsors, like a temporary market.
In its early years, the Cook-Off was often held in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Later, it moved to a different spot downtown. After the events of 9/11, security became a bigger concern. This caused the event to move to several new places over the next few years. More recently, it was held at the Center City Lot. In 2009, the Cook-Off took place at RFK Stadium for the first time. That year, 35,000 people attended, which was the biggest crowd ever for the event!
Awesome Rock Music
The DC101 Chili Cook-Off was famous for its rock music. Many modern rock bands played on a big stage set up in the RFK Stadium parking lot. The list of bands playing was usually announced in late March or early April.
In later years, there was a special contest called "Last Band Standing." This competition helped choose a local band to open the show. It was a great chance for new bands to play for a big crowd!
Many popular bands played at the festival more than once. Some of these included Child's Play, emmet swimming, Seven Mary Three, Sponge, Jimmie's Chicken Shack, Finger Eleven, Puddle of Mudd, Carbon Leaf, Third Eye Blind, Switchfoot, Chevelle, Papa Roach, Cake, and Seether.
In 2014, DC101 announced a new event called "Kerfuffle." It was held around the same time the Chili Cook-Off usually happened. There was no mention of a 2014 Chili Cook-Off, so it seems the Kerfuffle took its place.

The DC101 Chili Cook-Off had a long history, starting in 1979 and running until 2013. Over the years, it moved to several different locations in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore areas. Many famous bands played at the event, making it a popular music festival.
