About the Dadou River
The Dadou river is about 115.8 kilometers (or 72 miles) long. The area of land that drains water into the Dadou river, called its drainage basin, is about 857 square kilometers (or 331 square miles).
The amount of water flowing in the Dadou river changes throughout the year. On average, about 7.81 cubic meters (or 276 cubic feet) of water pass by a point in the river every second at Montdragon. This measurement is called the river's discharge.
Where the Dadou River Starts and Ends
The Dadou river begins high up in the Monts de Lacaune mountains. These mountains are part of the southern Massif Central in France. The exact starting point, or source, is in a small town called Saint-Salvi-de-Carcavès. Here, the river starts at an altitude of about 870 meters (or 2,854 feet) above sea level.
As it flows, the Dadou river generally moves towards the west. It passes through 26 different towns and villages in the Tarn department. Some of these towns include Montdragon, Graulhet, and Briatexte.
Finally, the Dadou river joins the Agout river at a place called Ambres. This is near another town, Saint-Jean-de-Rives. At this point, the Dadou river is about 115 meters (or 377 feet) above sea level.
Rivers Joining the Dadou
Many smaller rivers and streams flow into the Dadou river. These are called tributaries. They add more water to the Dadou as it makes its way to the Agout river.
