The Story of Dalkurd FF
The Dalkurd football club began in Borlänge in 2004. It was started by a group of Kurdish people. The main idea was to help young people in Borlänge. They wanted to give them fun activities to do. Another club, IK Brage, even helped pay for the project.
In its first year, the team's players were about 17 years old on average. The chairman, Ramazan Kizil, had big dreams for the team. He wanted Dalkurd to reach the highest levels of Swedish football. And they did! Dalkurd won every league they played in from 2005 to 2009. This amazing success got them a lot of attention. People in Sweden and other countries noticed them.
In March 2015, the team had a very close call. They were traveling home from Spain. They planned to fly from Barcelona to Düsseldorf. But at the last minute, they changed their flight. They thought the wait in Germany would be too long. The flight they were supposed to be on, Germanwings Flight 9525, crashed. Everyone on board died. Dalkurd was very lucky to have changed their plans.
In October 2017, Dalkurd moved up to the 2018 Allsvenskan league. On November 24, 2017, Dalkurd decided to move their main team to Uppsala. This city is about 140 kilometers southeast of Borlänge. They planned to play at the new Nya Studenternas IP stadium when it opened in 2020. However, in the 2018 season, Dalkurd played their home games at Gavlevallen in Gävle. This city is about 110 kilometers north of Uppsala.
In August 2024, the company that ran Dalkurd, DK Elit, went out of business. This meant the team was moved down one league at the end of the season. They had already been moved down from Division 2. So, for the 2025 season, they ended up in Division 4. Later, the Upplands Fotbollförbund decided to remove Dalkurd from Division 4 completely. Because of this, the club decided to stop all its activities for 2025.
