Daniel K. Davis (born September 6, 1941) is an American politician. He is a U.S. Representative for Illinois's 7th district, which means he helps make laws for the country. He was first elected in 1996. This district covers a large part of western Chicago, including areas like Oak Park and River Forest. Mr. Davis is a member of the Democratic Party. He is also part of the Congressional Black Caucus, a group of African-American members of Congress.

Early Life and Education
Danny K. Davis was born in Parkdale, Arkansas. He went to college at what is now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1961. Later, he continued his education at Chicago State University, getting a master's degree in guidance in 1968. He also earned a PhD in public administration from the Union Institute & University in 1977.
Before becoming a politician, Mr. Davis had several jobs. He worked as a government clerk and a high school teacher. He also directed training at a health center and led a community organization. These experiences helped him understand the needs of people in his community.
Early Political Career
Mr. Davis began his political career in Chicago. From 1979 to 1990, he was a member of the Chicago City Council, representing the city's 29th Ward. In this role, he helped make decisions for the city of Chicago.
In 1990, he was elected to the Cook County Board of Commissioners. This board helps manage the government for Cook County, Illinois, which includes Chicago. He served on this board until 1996.
Serving in the U.S. House of Representatives
In 1995, Danny K. Davis decided to run for the 7th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He ran on a platform that supported many progressive ideas. These included supporting gay rights, the ERA, and better healthcare for everyone. He also wanted more federal support for child nutrition and care.
In March 1996, Mr. Davis won the Democratic primary election. This meant he would be the Democratic Party's candidate for the general election. In November 1996, he won the general election with over 82% of the votes. He defeated his opponents from the Republican and other parties.
