David Aldridge (born 1964/1965) is a well-known American sports journalist. He currently writes about sports for The Athletic. Before this, he worked for Turner Sports. There, he covered basketball for the NBA and baseball for MLB.

Aldridge has also written for many other places. These include ESPN, NBA TV, NBA.com, and The Washington Post. In 2016, he received the Curt Gowdy Media Award. This special award is given by the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Starting Out: School and Early Jobs

David Aldridge was born in Washington, D.C.. He went to DeMatha Catholic High School. Later, he studied at American University. After college, he started his career as a writer.

He worked for The Washington Post for nine years. During that time, he covered many different sports teams. He wrote about Georgetown University basketball and the Washington Bullets. He also covered the Washington Redskins football team. Aldridge reported on big events too. These included the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He also covered national college basketball and football. Other events he covered were the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup playoffs, and the World Series. He even reported on the Indianapolis 500 car race and the U.S. Open tennis championships.

Working at ESPN

Before joining TNT in 2004, Aldridge worked for ESPN. He was there for eight years. His main job was covering the NBA. Sometimes, he also wrote about the NFL.

Aldridge wrote articles for ESPN.com. He also contributed to ESPN Radio. You could often see him on SportsCenter. He also appeared on shows like NBA 2 Night (now NBA Fastbreak) and NBA Today. Aldridge interviewed many famous basketball players. These included LeBron James, Allen Iverson, and Shaquille O'Neal. He also interviewed Karl Malone and others for "Sunday Conversations" on SportsCenter. In 2003 and 2004, he worked as an NBA sideline reporter. He did this for both ABC and ESPN.

Writing for The Philadelphia Inquirer

From 2004 to 2008, David Aldridge worked at The Philadelphia Inquirer. He was a reporter and columnist there. He covered both the National Football League and the National Basketball Association.

In 2005, he was part of a team at the Inquirer. They won an award for their series called "The Future of Pro Sports." This award came from the Society of Professional Journalists.

His Time at Turner Sports

David Aldridge was an "Insider" for TNT's show Inside the NBA. He also worked as a sideline reporter. He did this during the regular NBA season. He also reported during All-Star Weekend and the NBA playoffs.

From February 2007 to June 2008, Aldridge was a co-host on The Tony Kornheiser Show. This show was on Washington Post Radio. He later returned to the show in September 2009. As of 2016, he is a regular co-host on the show.

In late 2018, David Aldridge left Turner Sports. He joined the team at The Athletic as a writer. He continues to share his sports insights there.
