NBA TV is a special television channel all about basketball in the United States. It's owned by the National Basketball Association (NBA). This channel helps the NBA share exciting games and news with fans. It also promotes other NBA things like NBA League Pass and the TNT channel.

The Start of NBA TV

NBA TV first started in 1999. Back then, it was called nba.com TV. Its main studios were in Secaucus, New Jersey.

In 2003, the channel made a big deal with TV companies like Cox Communications and Time Warner. This helped NBA TV reach many more homes across the United States. It also started being shown in 30 different countries.

What You Can Watch on NBA TV

NBA TV shows basketball news every single day. You can also watch programs about players' lives. There are shows about what it's like to be part of an NBA team. They also show famous games from the past.

During the NBA season, you can usually watch live games four days a week. Keep in mind that some games might not be available in your area. This is because NBA TV shares the games with local channels.

The channel also shows basketball games from other countries. These often air on Saturday evenings. They pay special attention to the Euroleague and the Maccabi Tel Aviv team from Israel. In 2005, they even showed the finals of the Chinese Basketball Association for the first time.

NBA TV broadcasts at least 90 regular-season games each season. All these games are shown in high definition (HD). They also show some first-round playoff games. You can also watch WNBA games on the channel.

NBA Gametime Live

The most important show on NBA TV is NBA Gametime Live. In this show, a host and basketball experts talk about the latest news. They show highlights and check in on games that are happening live.

This show is live six days a week. It usually doesn't air on most Thursdays. This is because the NBA's other channel, The NBA on TNT, covers games then. An edited version of NBA Gametime Live is repeated later at night and in the early morning.

Who Owns NBA TV?

In 2007, Turner Sports took over running NBA TV. Turner Sports is part of a bigger company called Time Warner. They relaunched the channel in October 2008.

They brought in many of the same experts who work on The NBA on TNT. The studio was also updated. Now, the show is broadcast live from Studio B in Atlanta, Georgia. This studio is right next to Studio J, where Inside the NBA is filmed.

NBA TV Around the World

NBA TV is watched in many countries around the world.

In 2001, Raptors NBA TV started in Canada. It's similar to NBA TV but focuses more on the Toronto Raptors team. This is because of rules about Canadian content on TV.

As of 2010, NBA TV is available in 40 countries. Some of its partners include:

NBA TV in High Definition

NBA TV HD is the high-definition version of NBA TV. It shows programs in a very clear 1080i format. All the studio shows and new programs are filmed in HD. Live games and recent game replays are also shown in HD.

For older videos, like classic games, that aren't in HD, they use special borders. These borders often have the NBA logo or "NBA TV" written sideways.

More Ways to Watch NBA TV

Over the years, NBA TV has made deals with many TV providers. This has helped more people watch the channel.

In 2009, DirecTV moved NBA TV to a more common package. This meant 8 million more homes could watch it. Comcast also made a similar deal, adding 8 million more viewers.

Verizon FiOS started offering NBA TV and NBA League Pass in 2009. Other companies like Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Dish Network, and Cox Cable also signed new agreements.

Thanks to all these deals, the NBA believes NBA TV can now reach 45 million viewers!
