David Cortez Clowney IV, born on July 8, 1985, is a former professional football player. He played as a wide receiver. The Green Bay Packers chose him in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL draft. He played college football at Virginia Tech.

Clowney also played for other teams. These included the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills, Virginia Destroyers, and Montreal Alouettes.

David Clowney grew up in Delray Beach, Florida. He went to Atlantic Community High School. He was a great player there.

High School Achievements

  • He was named an All-State player in Class 5A as a senior.
  • He played four seasons as a receiver and safety.
  • The Palm Beach Post newspaper put him on the All-Palm Beach County team.
  • He made a huge play with a 99-yard touchdown catch. This happened against Blanche Ely High School.
  • He caught 25 passes for 576 yards and ten touchdowns. This was the most touchdowns in the county.
  • He also returned three kicks for 245 yards and two touchdowns.
  • In one game against Wellington High School, he caught three passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns.
  • As a junior, he caught 39 passes.

Clowney was also a fast runner on the track team. He was a state finalist in the 200-meter dash. He also reached the regional finals in the 100-meter dash. He played basketball for two years as a guard.

The Green Bay Packers picked Clowney in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL draft. He was the 157th player chosen overall.

New York Jets

The New York Jets signed Clowney on October 3, 2007.

2008 Season

In a 2008 preseason game, Clowney had a great performance. He caught four passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the preseason with eight catches for 222 yards and two touchdowns. However, he hurt his collarbone. His first official NFL catch was in Week 15. It was a one-handed catch for 26 yards from quarterback Brett Favre.

2009 Season

In 2009, Clowney caught 14 passes for 191 yards. He also scored 1 touchdown.

2010 Season

The Jets let Clowney go on September 5, 2010. But they signed him again on September 14, 2010. This was after their first game of the season. On October 4, 2010, Clowney and teammate Patrick Turner were released. This made space for other players joining the team.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers picked up Clowney on October 5, 2010. He started the next four games for them. This happened because their main receiver, Steve Smith, was injured.

Buffalo Bills

On January 5, 2012, Clowney signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills. This was a reserve/futures contract.

Montreal Alouettes

Clowney later signed with the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL. He got a neck injury on June 13, 2013. This happened during a preseason game against the Hamilton Tiger Cats. He was then placed on a special injured list for nine games.
