David Gómez Martínez (born February 13, 1981, in O Rosal, Pontevedra) is a Spanish athlete. He is famous for competing in the Decathlon. This is a very challenging event in athletics. It combines ten different track and field activities. David has won many awards and even competed in the Olympic Games twice!

David Gómez: A Decathlon Star
David Gómez is an amazing decathlete from Spain. He has won many national championships. He was a junior champion twice and a senior champion eleven times! He also earned two silver medals in the decathlon. One was at the 2000 IAAF World Junior Championships in Chile. The other was at the 2006 Ibero-American Championships in Puerto Rico.
Winning Gold
In 2004, David achieved a big success. He won a gold medal at the Ibero-American Championships in Huelva, Spain. He set his personal best score of 7,904 points there. This was also a new record for that championship!

David Gómez represented Spain in the Olympic Games two times.
Athens 2004 Olympics
After his gold medal win, David was chosen to compete at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He participated in the men's decathlon event. He finished in twenty-fifth place with a strong score of 7,865 points.
Beijing 2008 Olympics
David competed again at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He faced a serious injury during this competition. Despite this, he achieved his best results of the season in several events. These included the 100 metres (11.12 seconds), discus throw (40.17 m), and javelin throw (62.22 m). He also set a personal best in the 1500 metres (4:30.74). Unfortunately, he couldn't clear a height in the pole vault. This meant he lost his chance for a medal. He finished in twenty-fifth place with a total score of 6,876 points.
