David Samuel Goyer (born December 22, 1965) is an American filmmaker, writer, and comic book creator. He is famous for writing and helping create many superhero movies. These include the Blade trilogy (1998–2004) and parts of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy (2005–2012). He also worked on Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).

Goyer has also directed four films himself. These are Zig Zag (2002), Blade: Trinity (2004), The Invisible (2007), and The Unborn (2009). He is also the person who created the science fiction TV show Foundation, which is based on the famous books by Isaac Asimov.

He helped write the stories for popular video games like Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Goyer won an award for his writing on Batman Begins (2005). He has also been nominated for several other awards for his work.

Early Life and Education

David Goyer was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on December 22, 1965. He and his brother, Jeff, were raised by their mother. David went to Huron High School.

He later studied at the University of Southern California. He graduated from their film school in 1988. While there, he learned from a famous screenwriter named Nelson Gidding. Goyer often returned to his old class to share his experiences with new students. He sold his first movie script in 1989 for a film called Death Warrant.

Creative Career

David Goyer is a big fan of comic books. He has written or co-written many movie scripts based on popular comic book characters. These include Batman, Superman, Ghost Rider, and Blade. He even wrote a comic book series for DC Comics called JSA, which started in 1999.

Goyer also creates television shows. He co-created FlashForward, a science-fiction series that began in 2009. This show was based on a novel by Robert J. Sawyer. He also created Da Vinci's Demons, a show about the early life of Leonardo da Vinci. This series ran for three seasons and was well-liked by viewers.

In 2011, Goyer wrote a short story about Superman. He also worked with Legendary Pictures on big movies like The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and Man of Steel (2013). He even helped rewrite the script for the Godzilla movie in 2014.

Goyer has also written novels. His first novel, Heaven's Shadow, came out in 2011. It was the first book in a series he wrote with Michael Cassutt. He later sold the movie rights for the book to Warner Bros.

In 2013, Goyer was announced to work on the Justice League movie. He also worked on a sequel to Man of Steel. He produced the horror film The Forest, which came out in 2016.

Around 2014, Goyer started focusing more on independent films. He wanted to help make more movies that big studios weren't producing. He executive-produced The Birth of a Nation, which won many awards at the Sundance Film Festival.

Goyer continued to write for big movies. In 2014, he was chosen to write and produce a new Fantastic Voyage film. He also co-wrote the blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). In 2016, he announced he would write and direct an interactive virtual reality film about Darth Vader. He found creating VR content to be a very new and emotional experience.

In 2017, Goyer signed on to help write and produce Green Lantern Corps, another movie in the DC Extended Universe. He was also set to write and direct a reboot of Masters of the Universe. However, he later left that project.

In 2017, Goyer joined a team of writers to work on the next Terminator trilogy. In the early 2020s, he produced several films, including The Night House (2020) and The Tomorrow War (2021), starring Chris Pratt. He is also signed on to produce the sequel to The Tomorrow War.

Goyer is the executive producer and showrunner for the TV series Foundation, which started in 2021 on Apple TV+. He also co-wrote the first episode and is an executive producer for The Sandman, which came out on Netflix in 2022. For the 2022 film Hellraiser, Goyer wrote the story and produced the movie.
