DeAnna Marie Price (born June 8, 1993) is an American track and field athlete. She is best known for competing in the hammer throw. DeAnna holds the American record in the hammer throw. She set this record in 2021 with a throw of 80.31 meters. This amazing throw made her the second-best women's hammer thrower in history at that time.
In February 2021, DeAnna also broke a world record. She set a new record in the indoor hammer-style 25-pound weight throw. She threw the weight 85 feet, 4¼ inches. This broke the old record set by Gwen Berry in 2017.

DeAnna's Early Life and College Years
DeAnna Price grew up in Troy, Missouri. She went to Troy Buchanan High School. There, she was a talented athlete in two sports.
High School Sports
DeAnna was an All-State player in softball. She also competed in track and field. In track, she placed second in the discus throw and fifth in the shot put at the state meet. She received college scholarship offers for both softball and track and field.
College Achievements
DeAnna chose to attend Southern Illinois University. While throwing for her college team, she became a champion. She won two NCAA titles in the hammer throw. DeAnna has faced some health challenges, including having only one kidney.

DeAnna Price has represented the USA in many major competitions. She has won several medals and set records.
First International Competitions
In 2015, DeAnna competed at the 2015 Pan American Games. She finished fourth in the hammer throw. A few weeks later, she won her first international medal. She earned a silver medal at the 2015 NACAC Championships in Athletics.
Olympic Games Appearances
DeAnna has competed in the Olympic Games multiple times.
- At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she finished eighth in the hammer throw.
- She also competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (held in 2021), where she placed eighth again.
- Most recently, she participated in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She threw 71 meters and finished 11th.
World Championship Success
DeAnna made history at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha. She won the gold medal in the hammer throw. This made her the first American woman to win a medal in any throwing event at a World Championships! In 2023, she won a bronze medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Coaching Role
In 2022, DeAnna also started sharing her knowledge. She was hired as an assistant coach for the Illinois Fighting Illini track and field team.
