DeAnna Marie Price (born on June 8, 1993) is an American athlete. She is best known for competing in the hammer throw, which is a track and field event. DeAnna holds the American record in the hammer throw. She achieved her best throw of 80.31 meters at the 2021 US Olympic trials. This amazing throw made her the second-best female hammer thrower in history.
In 2021, DeAnna also set a new world record. She broke the record for the indoor hammer-style 25-pound weight throw. She threw the weight 85 feet, 4¼ inches. This was longer than the previous record set by Gwen Berry in 2017. DeAnna used to be an athlete at Southern Illinois University.

DeAnna's Early Life and College Years
DeAnna Price grew up in Troy, Missouri. She went to Troy Buchanan High School. In high school, she was a talented athlete in two sports. She played softball and was an All-State player. She also competed in track and field. At the state track meet, she placed second in the discus throw. She also finished fifth in the shot put. DeAnna received scholarship offers from colleges for both softball and track and field.
She chose to attend Southern Illinois University. While there, she became a champion in the hammer throw. She won two NCAA titles in a row. The NCAA championships are big college sports competitions. DeAnna has faced some challenges, including injuries and health issues, but she has always worked hard to overcome them.

DeAnna Price has represented the United States in many major competitions.
First International Medals
- In 2015, she competed at the Pan American Games. She finished fourth in the hammer throw.
- A few weeks later, she won her first international medal. She earned a silver medal at the NACAC Championships.
Olympic Games and World Championships
- DeAnna competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She finished eighth in the hammer throw event.
- In 2019, she made history at the World Championships in Doha. She won the gold medal in the hammer throw. This made her the first American woman to win a medal in any throwing event at the World Championships.
- She also competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics (held in 2021). She placed eighth again.
- In 2023, DeAnna won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Budapest.
- She also won a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.
- Most recently, she competed in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She finished 11th in the hammer throw.
Coaching Career
In 2022, DeAnna started a new role. She was hired as an assistant coach for the Illinois Fighting Illini track and field team.
