The Division of Corangamite is a special area in Victoria where people vote for their representative in the Australian Parliament. It was one of the first 75 voting areas created for Australia's very first federal election in 1901. It gets its name from Lake Corangamite.
This area covers about 7,624 square kilometres in the Western District of Victoria. While it has always included the town of Colac, most of its voters now live in the southern parts of Geelong and along the coast in towns like Anglesea and Queenscliff.
In the 2013 election, Corangamite was known as the "most marginal seat" in Australia. This means the vote was very close! The Liberal Party only needed a small shift of 0.3% of votes to win. They ended up getting a 4.22% shift and won the seat.
